Session Description and Speaker Bio

Speaker: Marcus S. Nagy, Ph.D

Topic:Creating a Culture of Civility in the Workplace

Session Description: This presentation will introduce the notion of civility in the workplace and how creating a culture of civility can increase respect for all employees within a workgroup. In doing so, acceptance and inclusion will be enhanced for all members of the workgroup, regardless of sex, race, religion, or any other protected group. Hence, civility is more than a diversity initiative that often focuses on only one protected group. In addition, it will be argued that increasing civility will result in fewer claims of sexual harassment while also reducing organizational costs associated with absenteeism and turnover, and increasing job satisfaction and performance. Finally, steps that can be taken to build a culture of civility in the workplace will be presented.
